Tartuffe
Christopher Hampton returns to the West End with his latest adaptation of Tartuffe, after last being at the Aldwych Theatre in 2013 with Stephen Ward: The Musical. Tartuffe comes to the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 25 May, after it was recently announced that the venue itself is being put up for sale.
This adaptation updates Molière’s classic work and transports it to modern day Los Angeles, where media tycoon Orgon is set on breaking into the upper echelons of Hollywood royalty. That is, until radical Evangelist Tartuffe appears, seduces Orgon and leads him to the brink of ruin – isolated from friends, family and even his business.
Tartuffe will be directed by Gerald Garutti in the first dual language production on the West End – the show will switch between being spoken in English with French surtitles and French with English surtitles.
